How are You Talking to your Customers?

ImageI have been reading a fascinating new book by Jeff Jarvis titled What Would Google Do?  I want to share just a thought or two from this book over the next few days.

JJ writes a quote from The Cluetrain Manifesto, that "Markets are conversations".  That means that the key skill in any organization today is no longer [traditional] marketing, but conversing with your customers.

Conversing with your customers comes in a variety of ways... specifically blogs (such as this one), Tweets from Twitter, e-mail updates, and yes, some traditional direct marketing (speaking to individual customers... remember "mass customization" as well, to help push customers to specific sites and blogs. Traditional media is failing all over the world.  Newspapers are closing, magazines are going bankrupt, and TV ad rates are falling.  Why?  Customers are not getting their information from this traditional media any longer.  They are getting it online.  If you are not talking with your customers online, if you are not providing value online, you are missing a big opportunity.
